Craigard House is well placed to get the best out of a photographic holiday in the Highlands. Every season has its specific advantages. There are an abundance of photogenic locations within easy reach of Invergarry. To see a range of my own photographs that should give you some indication of what the area offers please go to the gallery page.

Landscape photography ranges from the classic Scottish locations such as Buachaille Etive Mhor, Eilean Donan and Urquhart Castles through to the equally interesting and in some cases more challenging locations in the vicinity of Glengarry.

The photographic opportunities are not just confined to the large sweeping landscapes, if you are interested in nature photography then the variety of different habitats and the seasons give you plenty of scope. There is a large area of mixed woodlands in Glengarry, however in Glen Affric the original Caledonian forest with magnificent Scots Pine, both areas are rich in associated flora and fauna.

The moorlands offer a complete change with the large, Red Deer to the tiny, mosses and lichens, in late summer the mountains take on a magnificent purple colour when the heather flowers .

By way of contrast the engineering structures of the Caledonian canal and the boats provide a different perspective. The canal stretches between Fort William and Inverness and provides ample opportunity for photographs at the lochs at Neptunes Staircase and Fort Augustus.

For those preferring action photography then there is a range of many sporting events that take place in the region throughout the year. The forested area around Fort William plays host to several mountain biking events. Throughout the highlands from spring to autumn the Shinty season provides plenty of action and in the summer there are Highland Games, from prestigious events such as Braemar to local gatherings such as Invergarry.

If you would prefer a photographic safari, a course or take part in a workshop then locally Nevispix can help, click for more information.
